RECOMMENDED SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR …
The Forth Bridges

As we leave Edinburgh from your accommodation or meeting point, we cross the new Queensferry Crossing built in 2017. You’ll see the iconic Forth Rail Bridge, built in 1890 with the 1964 road bridge running in parallel.

Falkland Palace

Our first stop is Falkland Palace, a 13th century royal hunting lodge. In the last 600 years, it’s been the site of countless royal visits, and is an interesting glimpse into royal life in Scotland. James V, the father of Mary, Queen of Scots, died here. One of the world’s oldest tennis courts and a beautiful mature garden can be found in the grounds.

St Andrews

The outline of St Andrews becomes visible as we travel east. There’s been a settlement here since the 6th century. It was a crucial part of Scotland’s development of Religion, Education, and Culture. There are lots of interesting and varied places to visit in the town, including the Cathedral, the University, and the Old Course fairway.

St Andrews is a varsity town and the University is spread amongst its historic streets and buildings. We’ll see the historic buildings of the school, its schools and student life in the town. A recent famous student,  Prince William famously met Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Cambridge at St Andrews.

The Home of Golf

For golfers from all over the world, St Andrews is the home of golf. It’s impossible to visit St Andrews without seeing the famous fairway at the Royal And Ancient Golf Club Of St Andrews and driving across the green (between golfers!) and taking a picture with the St Andrew Links clubhouse in the background.

St Andrews Castle

Our trip to the town won’t be complete without visiting this 13th century medieval castle with its fascinating history. In the Scottish Wars of Independence, St Andrews Castle was ruined several times, was a prison, and was sieged in 1546 as part of the Scottish Reformation. With heavy artillery bombardment in 1574, a fleet of French ships ended the siege despite more fortifications being added to the castle.

St Andrews Cathedral

The medieval St Andrews Cathedral was built around 1160 by Bishop Arnold. It was the largest cathedral in Scotland and one of the largest in Europe. It was home to the Church of Scotland and visited by thousands of pilgrims. It’s a ruin today, a victim of the religious Reformation in Scotland (1560 – 1599) and later decay and sacking.

The views from St Rules Tower are amazing, so make sure you climb 33 meters to the top (optional!).

The East Neuk

Our route from St Andrews takes us along the East Neuk coastline. This sleepy agricultural peninsula offers stunning views as we pass by Pittenweem, Anstruther, and Crail, fishing villages. There’s old fishing boats, cobbled streets, and small cottages in these towns to take in the sea air.

Passing Lundin Links, we get back on the road towards Edinburgh and the end of our day tour through The Kingdom Of Fife.

Amazing private tour. Our tour guide Debbie, was so nice, and knowledgeable about the sites. She really took a great tour to another level with her personality and professionalism! The minivan was clean and comfortable and a great alternative to bus/mini bus crowds. Would highly recommend.
