Our service
Northern Central Scotland offers a wealth of history, stunning landscapes and easy road connections all within reach of Edinburgh. Venture northwest and experience the Birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, The historic Royal Seat and Capital City of Scotland and explore the natural beauty of Scotland’s first national park.
Departing from Edinburgh we travel along ‘The Royal Route’ that connects the historic Edinburgh Castle with Stirling Castle via Linlithgow Palace. In part a Roman road, this historic way has been in use in one form or another for over a thousand years.
Each one of our private tours is conducted in our premium Mercedes minivans, ensuring your comfort as we venture along the small cobbled streets around Edinburgh and narrow back roads of the highlands.
Your knowledgable kilt-wearing private tour guide will tell you the stories and show you the sights on this tour. We offer flexibility and your time inside and outside the vehicle is up to you.
RECOMMENDED SIGHTS ON THIS TOUR …
Linlithgow Palace
Linlithgow Palace was home to the Scottish monarchy in the 15th and 16th century. Used for relaxing and entertaining, it was here that Mary De Guise gave birth to Mary Queen Of Scots in 1542. We’ll marvel at this impressive building and learn about it’s important place in Scottish history from the courtyard.
Stirling Castle
We’ll then continue on to Stirling Castle that sits on a volcanic plug overlooking the Carse Of Stirling. Driving up the cobbled streets to the ‘top of the town’ you’ll get a true understanding of why the castle and the town held such importance in historic Scotland.
We’ll explore the castle, learning about its place in history and the people who lived here. More so than any other castle in Scotland you can really feel what it was like to live and work here in the 16th century. You’ll visit the Great Hall, Royal Apartments and service areas of the castle.
Climbing onto ‘The Wall Walk’ the views across the Carse of Stirling towards the Wallace Monument and Ochil hills are amazing. On a clear day you can see for 40 miles around. Learn about events that took place within the castle walls and learn about The Battle of Stirling Bridge and why it was a pivotal event in the Wars of Independence at the end of the 13th century.
David Stirling Monument & Doune Castle
As we leave stirling towards the national park we’ll stop briefly at The David Stirling Memorial. David Stirling was the founder of the Special Air Service, an elite tactical unit during World War II and his viewpoint offers views towards Doune Castle and into the Trossachs.
We’ll stop briefly to see famous Doune Castle that has featured in film and TV productions including Monty Python, Game of Thrones and Outlander.
Loch Lomond
From here we continue on to Loch Lomond, the largest surface area of fresh water in the UK. Take in the views from the road end pier and learn about the geological and social history of the region before calling at a local historical tavern for a late-lunch.
After some local food, perhaps with a locally brewed beer or whisky (!) we start to travel home towards Edinburgh.
Optionally, it is possible to take a boat trip over the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond which includes a short stop at the heritage village of Luss. We’ll ask if you want to do this after you book.
The Forth Bridges
On the outskirts of the city we make our final stop of the day at South Queensferry. This costal town has fantastic views of the three bridges, the only place in the world three bridges from three centuries cross a body of water.
At the end of the day it’s time to bid a farewell to your guide, although you’ll have memories and a camera full of photos to last a lifetime. Haste Ye back!

Amazing private tour. Our tour guide Debbie, was so nice, and knowledgeable about the sites. She really took a great tour to another level with her personality and professionalism! The minivan was clean and comfortable and a great alternative to bus/mini bus crowds. Would highly recommend.
